Japanese NGOs engaged in the Philippines

Japanese civil society organizations have had an active role in providing development support and assistance to other countries. A survey conducted by the Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC) shows that there are more than 400 organizations engaged in various forms of international development assistance. (JANIC, 2007)

Of this number, an estimated 80 to 90 organizations are actively involved in the Philippines, making the Philippines a primary beneficiary for Japanese NGO assistance. (Asian Community Center , 2008)

Given the geographical proximity and close ties between the two countries, Japanese NGOs are actively involved throughout the Philippines. They are engaged in a variety of programs and projects ranging from peace dialogues to poverty alleviation and reduction.
